Try Sailing – Terms and conditions

Try Sailing Days are only available to Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club members over 18 years of age.

All boats are provided free of charge by their owners. Participants are guests aboard these boats and the owners receive no payments whatsoever for their involvement in the sessions. All helpers are also volunteers receiving no payment whatsoever. For the duration of the sessions skippers, helpers or any other persons associated with the running of the sessions will be deemed to be servants of the Club acting on a voluntary basis. The sessions are not a training course and the participation of skippers, helpers, presenters or any other servants of the Club does not signify their suitability to instruct.

The Club, its Officers and servants together with the skippers, owners  and crew of the yachts will not accept any liability for any injury, damage or loss to any persons whilst participating in the sessions whether or not such damage, injury or loss could have been attributed to or was occasioned by the neglect, default or negligence of any of the Club Officers, servants, skippers, owners or crew.

As with any sport there is some risk associated with sailing. You must agree to follow the instructions of the designated skipper of the yacht and should follow out their instructions in a calm and controlled manner. The decks of yachts are often wet and therefore slippery, as are the pontoons, and care must be taken when moving around. Suitable footwear must be worn at all times.

For safety reasons participants will be required to wear life jackets at all times when on the yacht unless otherwise advised by the skipper. Life jackets will be provided for those without their own.

If the skipper has any doubts about the fitness, health or suitability of any participant they may be refused permission to go aboard the yacht on safety grounds. The skipper’s decision will be final.

If the conditions on the day are unsuitable for any of the outside activities it may be necessary to forego them. However the skippers will do their best to arrange an alternative date for them.

Places for each session will be strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Your personal details from your application will be kept by the Club for administrative purposes only and are never shared with third parties. If you do not wish your details to be stored please let us know.

You will be required to sign a copy of these terms and conditions to signify your acceptance of them on the day.
